State Senator Joseph Addabbo is introducing legislation in Albany that would require crossing guards to be placed on every corner that has a public or private New York City school during arrival and dismissal times.

“During the academic year, the lives of well over 1 million New York City school children hang in the balance as students travel back and forth for classes on local streets,” Addabbo said. “Crossing guards are absolutely invaluable to ensuring the safety of these young people.

Addabbo is also a co-sponsor of legislation to increase crossing guards around elementary and middle schools. His new bill would cover students in grades 9 to 12 as well.

“This bill would not only improve the safety of our high school students, but would also create jobs,” he added. “It’s a win-win for our city.
